Alex graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in Environmental Studies and a new favorite plant, the giant redwood tree. There he focused primarily on environmental education and coastal policy. His favorite classes included California Coastal Policy, Redwood Ecology, and Latin American History. While at UCSC, Alex worked as a policy intern for State Assembly Member Mark Stone and researched environmental issues affecting the Santa Cruz community, including whale entanglement and beach erosion.
After moving to Los Angeles, he was fortunate to find a job as an Education Specialist and later a Seasonal Zookeeper at the LA Zoo. There he quickly realized that working outside beat working in an office any day. Inspired to find more ways to participate in animal care and contribute to conservation, Alex began volunteering at Aquarium of the Pacific in their husbandry department and at the Marine Mammal Center in San Pedro as a seal and sea lion rehabilitator.
Alex is excited to continue his passion for animals, education, and conservation as a member of the WLC team.
